Up to 1987, a dog whose owner was part of AMR’s staff attended school events and was considered the school mascot. That year, the Athletics Department, along with the Sports Club’s officers, undertook the task of choosing an official school mascot. After various options were submitted, the choice was narrowed down to two: ladybugs or beauty bees. At that point, the Student Council favored the ladybugs, whereas the Sports Club’s officers favored the beauty bees. After campaigns from both sides for the students to imagine a costume for each of the two choices, a general vote was held. The winner was the Beauty Bees.
Throughout the years, sports reporters who wrote about the constant wins of AMR’s teams unknowingly changed Beauty Bees to Blue Bees, which has become the official name of AMR’s mascot.
